My Story
Hi everyone. I have been an engineer for the past 25 years, mostly related to VA/VE or cost reduction projects. At this point, however, I am interested in transitioning to a football analytics or similar role that meshes my technical background with my passion for football. I know it will be difficult to make the change, but I would really like to try.
When I was in high school, I wasn’t the athletic type, but I really knew my football. I was the nerd who knew every player on every NFL team, and I could be challenged on this. In fact, years later, when I got married, the best man in his speech told the audience to throw out a number, and I would be able to identify the NFL player.
I loved my little niche collection of football knowledge, so to stay on top of it, I built a pro football database about 20 years ago. I loved tinkering with it and learning new things over the years that it got to a point where I wondered, “Why can’t I turn this into a job?”
Since I built that database, I’ve learned about so many other tools in analytics, and today, that database contains notes and statistics covering over 10,000 players since 2000.
